Does anyone have an idea of how to best convert CCITT image data (extracted from a PDF file) to something usable?

My initial plan was to just extract them, open them in GIMP, and save them as B/W PNGs, but GIMP can't read the raw CCITT data (shame, shame). However, CCITT is one of the compression schemes used in TIFF files, so why not just take ( Read more... )

OK, so Firefox (with its long-dreaded new UI, Australis) recently came out. And as usual, alongside all the new features and "features", it contains a bunch of security fixes, so not upgrading is not really an option.

Given that Twitter finally broke the old TweetDeck versions (0.38.x) recently, can someone recommend a decent twitter client?

The one I've had recommended to me is Janetter, but it's suffering from at least four issues:

So, I've got a java program that needs a fair amount of memory (about 2.4 GiB). Just running it the regular way causes it to exit with an OOM error; the program is smart enough to catch this and suggest adjusting the heap size by running it as java -Xmx -jar

Quick question: does anyone know any good resources for free sound effects, ideally in WAV format? I'm specifically looking for an old-fashioned car horn sound - think "aoogah". :) Alternatively, other car horn sounds would be useful, too.

What I want to do: display a series of images (thumbnails, really) in a rectangular grid of 240x240 pixel boxes (plus padding, but that's not important). The number of images per row should be dynamic (i.e. depend on the width of the viewport). I don't know the dimensions of the images, but I know no dimension can exceed 240 pixels.
